The moratorium on publishing pre-election polls won't be three weeks but reduced to two and all parties are to be represented on election committees, not just those that acquired a minimum of 3 percent of votes in the past election as originally planned, according to the agreement reached between Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and the Opposition on Thursday.
The agreement comes in the wake of the criticism levelled by the Opposition at the Smer-sponsored Election Act amendment. Aside from the ban on polls before elections and the makeup of election committees, the Opposition also resents the ban on non-party campaigning that will rule out election-based initiatives of civic organisations. According to the press department of the Interior Ministry, however, agreement with the Opposition even on this issue is within reach.
