Slovak economy grows by 3.7%

In the second quarter of 2016 the Slovak economy grew by 3.7% in comparison to the same period of last year, according to a flash estimate released by the Slovak Statistics Office on Friday. This result beat analysts' expectations. "Increased household consumption, growing employment and salaries and improved external environment development fuelled by car industry exports are the main factors behind the higher growth. On the other hand a significant drop in construction indicates that the slow-down in the drawing of EU funds is already visible in the GDP's evolution via decreased investment," said Ľubomír Koršňák, an analyst of UniCredit Bank. He added that Brexit hasn't influenced the European economies so far. Its possible negative impact on macroeconomic indicators will probably occur at the end of this year.
