On Wednesday, Slovak single slalom canoeist Jakub Grigar finished fifth in the K1 discipline finals at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The 19 year-old athlete had been the first in the semi-finals and had also had the best time during most of his race in the finals. However, he slowed down in the final meters and dropped to fifth place, with a 0.9 second loss to the gold medallist Joseph Clarke of Great Britain. "I think it wasn't bad at all, considering that I am 19. At least I have a motivation to go to another Olympic Games," said Grigar. Thus, he recorded the best result of a Slovak at the Olympics in this discipline. Also on Wednesday, sport shooter Pavol Kopp finished seventh in the finals of the men's 10 metre air pistol discipline.
