Scientists support creation of national park in Bratislava

The Slovak Academy of Sciences supports the initiative of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region to create a new national park called 'Podunajsko'. Through this the Academy wants to protect unique areas of nature such as the inland deltas of the Danube River and the primeval floodplain forest ecosystems. The creation of the park would unite several areas, which are already under some degree of protection, and could improve their situation. The national park would border with similar national parks in Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
