The Opposition is calling on police to publicly announce the reason behind the accusations against special prosecutor Vasiľ Špirko. Špriko, prosecuted for abusing his power, was in charge of investigating Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, allegedly linked to a tax fraud suspect Ladislav Bašternák. The criminal prosecution against Špriko is conducted by the Slovak National Criminal Agency directed by the Interior Ministry under the rule of Kaliňák. The opposition claims it was made up in order to spoil the investigation of the case. Špirko has reportedly been taken off the Kaliňák case. Moreover, police have confiscated his work computer during a raid and a senior prosecutor is now checking all his files.
