Emergency number 112 celebrates 25th birthday

On Friday, the European emergency number celebrates 25 years of its existence. Despite all that time in service, only a quarter of EU citizens are aware that by calling this number they can access emergency services in every EU member state," said Ingrid Ludviková of European Commission Representation in Slovakia. However, she added that Slovaks are significantly better informed, since 72% of them know they can use it in any EU country. By calling 112, the caller can be localised and is automatically redirected to police, emergency or fire-fighters. Moreover, this number is available 24/7 and can be called even from a phone without a SIM card.
