Slovaks flock to movie theatres once again

Cinema attendance figures recorded by Creative Europe Desk Slovakia show that Slovaks are gradually returning to cinemas. While in 2014 around 4.1 million people visited cinemas, in 2015 the figure rose by nearly half a million, reported the Hospodárske Noviny daily on Tuesday. Film critic Peter Konečný claims that one of the reasons for the higher number of cinemagoers is the expansion of multiplex cinemas as well as traditional cinemas in Slovakia. He added that another factor that influences cinema attendance is how many blockbusters are shown in Slovak cinemas each year. Higher cinema attendance is also a by-product an improved service levels, from new cinema environments to various kinds of snacks and beverages on offer, writes the daily. The top three films seen at cinemas in Slovakia in 2015 were Minions, Fifty Shades of Grey and Hotel Transylvania 2 in that order.
