Maroš Šefčovič, the Vice-president of the European Commission, in charge of the Energy Union has committed to present a report on prices and the price structure of energies in individual member states during Slovakia's Presidency of the EU Council. He made this pledge at an informal session of EU ministers of energy and climate change on Wednesday. "The way the system is set up today doesn't work. He have an overregulated energy market," said Šefčovič, adding that rising electricity charges can be attributed to various political decisions, such as support for selected sources of electricity and some social programs. The Ministers also discussed questions of energy prices and their impact on the Union's competitiveness. They agreed that a thorough analysis of the consequences of all the newly approved measures, especially on the competitiveness of European enterprises, is necessary.
