EU Justice Ministers meet in Bratislava

The creation of a European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is among the main topics for the meeting of EU Justice Ministers in Bratislava on Friday. The EPPO is planned to be an independent EU body with the authority to investigate and prosecute fraud and other crimes affecting the Union's financial interests. "In order to make this institution meaningful, prosecution at the European level will have to be more effective than at the national level", said Slovak Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská. Among the other topics discussed by the Justice Ministers in Bratislava were cyber criminality, e-justice, cooperation of EU member states in international cases, exchanging criminal evidence, as well as the usage of video conferences for trials.
