"Slovakia's role during its Presidency of the EU Council is to be an empathetic moderator of discussions on the future of the Union," said Slovak President Andrej Kiska on the public broadcaster RTVS' show O 5 minút 12 (5 Minutes to 12) on Sunday. Andrej Kiska said that it's good to remember the past at this historic moment. "We used to stand on the borders and were longing to be part of the Western world," said the president. He also pointed at many positives that EU membership has brought. Andrej Kiska emphasised that if we criticise the EU, we criticise ourselves too, as basic decisions in Brussels are approved unanimously with Slovak MPs also in the European parliament.
