On Sunday the fifth annual "Umbrella parade" was held in the Bratislava city centre to celebrate World Refugee Day, internationally observed on 20th June. The event was organized by the Slovak Humanitarian Council, the Milan Šimečka Foundation as well as other NGOs and initiatives. World Refugee Day has been globally observed since 2001. In 2016 Slovakia granted asylum to 154 people and another 5 were given temporary protection.
