Angela Merkel: Nord Stream 2 shouldn't adversely affect Slovakia

"It is important to ensure that Nord Stream 2 won't adversely affect Slovakia", stated German Chancellor Angela Merkel after meeting Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Berlin on Wednesday. If the planned pipeline is completed, Slovakia could suffer major financial losses. The country now receives hundreds of millions of euro from transporting gas via existing pipeline that also crosses Ukraine. "I hope that we'll be capable of combining the three factors: compliance with the EU energy union, our own economic interests and the interests of a global nature concerning Ukraine", said Fico. As he concluded, Slovakia is now waiting for a professional opinion from the European Commission.
