Italian Minister of Economy and Finances Pier Carlo Padoan met with Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kažimír in Bratislava on Monday. Among the topics they discussed was European Unemployment Insurance. "We are not looking for a tool to support irresponsible countries, however we need to support the national budgets of countries that face short-term unemployment, with respect to rules," explained Kažímír after the meeting. The ministers also discussed common European taxation. They agreed that the tax systems of EU members should not compete, yet cooperate to avoid tax fraud. Padoan added that it is important to decrease expenses for companies in Europe and also to ease up excessive bureaucracy.
