Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič is in New York at the meeting on the European future of Ukraine. President Gašparovič stated that Ukraine’s European orientation is a strategic issue for the whole of Europe.
The Slovak President, alongside heads of Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Latvia, and Estonia agreed on the need to support Ukrainian ambitions to sign the Association Agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit. Gašparovič stressed that Slovakia has adopted a principled stance on the European orientation of Ukraine and claims Ukraine represents a European country and belongs to Europe's political and cultural space.
