Peter Sagan, the current world champion in road cycling, will represent Slovakia at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the cross country discipline. The only Slovak in the road cycling peloton will be Martin Haring. That was decided by the executive committee of the Slovak Cycling Federation. "In cycling, there are the countries, not individuals, which compete for their spots at the Olympics. In both disciplines, we managed to earn only one place", explained the president of the federation Peter Privara. He added that it was Peter Sagan himself who gave up his place in the road cycling peloton. "After testing the Olympic track, Peter felt he wouldn't have a chance to compete for the win, therefore, he chose to take part in cross country", concluded the president of the Slovak Cycling Federation.
