Resistance to antibiotics on programme for Slovakia’s EU Presidency

During its Presidency of the EU Council, Slovakia will tackle, within the healthcare sector, the issue of the growing resistance to treatments involving antibiotics, Health Minister Tomas Drucker (Smer-SD nominee) said on the news channels TA3 on Sunday. "We especially want to deal with this issue in the context of vaccination and the migration crisis problem," said Drucker. The Presidency will also address the problem of tuberculosis in Ukraine, where over 40 percent of patients are resistant to the antibiotics currently used to treat this disease, he explained. A healthy lifestyle for Europeans will also be on the agenda. Slovakia's predecessor in leading the EU Council, the Netherlands, dealt with the issue of innovative medicines.
