Mandatory quotas on Slovak music might be unconstitutional

Prosecutor General Jaromír Čižnár filed a proposal with the Constitutional Court to begin examining the so-called mandatory quotas on Slovak music. The prosecutor general believes that the contested legislation does not respect the law. According to Čižnár the amendment on quotas retroactively affects the property rights of broadcasters, the right to property, the right to business, while also distorting competition. Quota requirements came into force this April. The amendment to the Law on Broadcasting and Retransmission has introduced an obligation for radios to play 20% domestically produced music during the time from 6am until midnight.
