Prime Minister Fico: “No room for Islam in Slovakia”

"There is no room for Islam in Slovakia," stated Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday. If someone says that Slovakia wants to be multicultural, they're against the country in general, Fico added in the interview for the Press agency TASR, confirming that Slovakia under his leadership will maintain its thumbs down on the migrant resettlement quotas. "Our stance is legitimate and we will maintain it," said Fico, adding that reality has proven Slovakia right. Fico declared that the country must have an interest in preserving its own traditions, reiterating that he doesn't wish to see the emergence of a 'unified Islamic community' in Slovakia as the PM doesn't want to change the character of this country. The Muslim community in Slovakia is well integrated, financially self-sufficient and almost without problems, states the reaction of the Islam foundation in Slovakia to the statements of PM Fico. They furthermore reiterate that the Prime Minister promised to protect Slovakia, "however we do not feel safer at all," states the foundation, adding that the fact that Fico insults Muslims and their religion clearly shows that the constitutional freedom of religion does not count for Muslims. They also remind the PM that as of July 1^st Slovakia will preside over the European Council, which means presiding over almost 20 million Muslims that live in the EU.
