21 of the 149 Assyrian Christian refugees who came to Slovakia in December of last year have decided to return to Iraq. According to the ministry, the reason for their return wasn't unhappiness with their treatment in Slovakia, but homesickness. Slovakia currently isn't considering receiving further refugees in place of these 21 Assyrian Christians, stated Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, adding that it's because such replacement would involve too much work, mainly for the civil association Peace and Good and the Nitra Diocese, which are ensuring the integration of these refugees. "I don't currently see scope for increasing the capacity for integration," said Minister Kaliňák. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry's Migration Office director, Bernard Priecel, conceded that further Iraqi refugees might also give up their efforts to integrate themselves in Slovakia.
