Migration or European development revision

Migration or a revision of European development dominated the meeting of the Foreign Affairs council on Thursday. Slovakia was represented by the Foreign Ministry state secretary Lukáš Parízek. The member states focused on the progress since constituting the EU Emergency Trust Fund for helping with EU-Africa co-operation on migration. Slovakia has contributed €600,000 as part of the €4 million V4 package which also includes the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. "We find it essential to focus on the causes of migration and co-operate with countries of origin as well as of transit", said Lukáš Parízek. As he added, Slovakia is convinced that education is crucial in this respect. The Foreign Affairs council has also discussed the need to meet the goals of sustainable development adopted at a UN summit in 2015. The participants agreed on an overall revision of the EU development policy. The key documents of this revision would be presented during the Slovak EU Council presidency.
