IOM records dozens of human trafficking cases per year

The International Organisation for Migration in Slovakia records between 30 and 40 victims of human trafficking per year", TASR learnt from Zuzana Vatralova, head of IOM's office in Slovakia. The victims are mainly Slovaks who are trafficked abroad, usually to Great Britain, in order to work. The organisation in Slovakia provides assistance to such victims by helping them to return home safely. Last year, for example, the organisation identified 29 victims of human trafficking and managed to help 19 of them. "Slovakia is still mostly a country of origin for human trafficking", said Zuzana Vatralova. Despite this, IOM staff has identified certain pieces of evidence that people are trafficked to Slovakia as well. The organisation helps these people to return home, said Vatralova.
