The European Commission (EC) would welcome it if Slovakia dropped its lawsuit over quotas for the resettlement of migrants, said European Commission Vice-president for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič on the Braňo Závodský Live show on Radio Expres on Tuesday. Šefčovič said that the EC would see it as a positive signal if Slovakia were to drop the legal action prior to its Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is set to start on July 1. Nevertheless, Slovakia's success will be measured based on achieved results, stated Šefčovič. The commissioner confirmed that the migration crisis will be one of the main topics of the presidency, adding that individual EU-member states should focus on measures that bind them together and not on those that divide them. He stressed that Slovakia should focus on the greater integration of migrants into society, as was the case with its recent integration of Assyrian Christians from Iraq. "Slovakia should emphasise all the things for which it's willing to do a lot, mainly in the areas of external border protection. I think that we'll look for a positive way to integrate refugees, just like in the case of some Syrian [sic] families", added Šefčovič.
