Europe Day commemorates 9th May 1950, when a proposal known as the 'Schuman declaration' was laid forward for the creation of an organized Europe, this being considered the act that created what is now the European Union. Europe Day celebrations organized by the European Commission Representation in Slovakia and European Parliament Information Office in Slovakia will also take place in Bratislava. On the Hlavné námestie [Main Square] visitors can participate in several discussions, enjoy concerts and learn more about the EU in the stalls of foreign embassies in Slovakia, cultural centers and NGOs.
