No general amnesty for drivers without E-stickers

Approximately 250,000 cases of driving without valid motorway e-stickers have been recorded in Slovakia this year, according to the TASR press agency. The Transport Ministry plans to lower the fines from the current €300 to €150. The periodicity of penalisation is about to change as well: whereas at present, a fine is imposed for every day of driving without a valid e-sticker, after the change, drivers wouldn't receive new fines sooner than one month after the first fine. If, however, they pay up within 15 days, the sum should be reduced to €100. Michal Halabica from the National Highway Company (NDS) finds this as a good step to motivate drivers, adding that if a motorist receives a second fine, but buys a €50 e-sticker valid for one year, the second fine will be forgiven.
All those who have been in the system since February 1, and have violated the law by not driving with a valid e-sticker will be fined. However, not across a 24-hour period, but with a single fine of €150.
