eHealth cards postponed

The Government will postpone the deadline by one year for the issuing of cards with embedded electronic chips to all patients enrolled in the public health insurance system. The new deadline is now December 2017. The same extension is to be introduced for the mandatory electronic health records that are supposed to allow doctors to access the data online; the bulk of the so-called eHealth system. Patients and healthcare personnel in Slovakia should have begun having online access to medical records 4 years and three months ago. In March the Slovak Supreme Audit Office reported that the eHealth project leaders broke the law on public procurement, accounting norms and the Civil Code. This was the reason why the Government has decided to postpone the deadline. Now Parliament will discuss the proposal in a fast-tracked procedure.
