Košice Region plans to borrow €30 million from EIB

The Košice region plans to take advantage of the current low interest rates of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and take out a loan for improving its infrastructure, according to a report cited by the TASR press agency. The total investment should reach €30 million. Apart from transport infrastructure, the money should also go towards the education system, sports, culture and social facilities. In terms of transport, the intention is to channel the resources into repairs of third and second-class roads as well as to buy equipment for their maintenance. This should amount to approximately €16.8 million. Other projects involve decreasing the energy intensity of residential health-care facilities (€6.1 million), the construction of a multifunctional gym in Košice (€4.6 million) and the construction of the Eastern Slovak Museum's depository in the Košice borough of Šaca (€1 million). The loan should be drawn until 2018.
