Slovakia is not doing well in collecting Value Added Tax. In fact according to data of the European Commission from 2011, it came as the fifth worst country in the EU in the difference between the expected and actual VAT incomes as a percentage of GDP. In the year 2011, the difference was as big as 4 percent of GDP. It is estimated that more than €190 billion in revenue from value-added tax went astray in the whole of the EU in 2011.
