European Commission VP for Energy Union: Slovakia should help with energy agenda

The European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič hopes that Slovakia will help with the energy agenda during its Council of the EU presidency. "This year should be pivotal in terms of presenting key proposals, therefore I'd be glad if Slovakia, for instance, tries to finalise the package of measures related to energy security and negotiates an agreement between European Parliament and EU-member states," Šefčovič stated on Wednesday. A part of this package, which was introduced by the European Commission in February, is a proposal for greater transparency of contracts on gas supplies signed between EU-member states and third countries. The package should prepare the EU for a global transformation of power engineering and for potential disruptions in gas supplies. Šefčovič also pointed out that the energy agenda will be on the table at two large events that will take place during Slovakia's presidency in the second half of 2016.
