Slovakia will agree with accepting Montenegro as 29th NATO member, with the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry having sent this statement as part of the comment process within NATO, the ministry's press department announced on Tuesday. "Montenegro's possible NATO membership will allow its integration into the Euro Atlantic community, thus significantly contributing towards security and expanding the sphere of stability and freedom in the Western Balkans", said the ministry. This treaty needs to be okayed by Government, Parliament and inked by the President. A similar process is required to take place in all 28 NATO member countries for Montenegro being accepted. Montenegro received an invitation for NATO membership on December 2, 2015, with the first round of accession talks launched on February 15, 2016. Meanwhile, Russia has described Montenegro's possible accession to NATO as a harmful element for European security. According to Moscow, NATO is carrying out expansionist policies, thereby putting existing geopolitical stability at risk.
