The ski touring season in the High Tatra national park is over. As of Saturday, April 16, ski alpinists and mountaineers organised in mountaineering unions are banned to enter the alpine area. The reason behind the limitation for skiing tourists in the upper parts of the national park is for the protection of its nature. Some of the protected species shouldn't be disturbed while looking for food after the long winter. Moreover, female chamois are very pregnant during this period of the year. The only exception for the ski alpinists is the Žiar valley where they can continue their skiing tourism until May 15. Meanwhile, the alpine level of the national park will be closed until June 15.
