World-famous Slovak artist Andrej Rudavský dies

The internationally acclaimed Slovak sculptor and respected creator of modern fine art Andrej Rudavský passed away on Monday (April 11), his son Ondrej Rudavský confirmed for the SITA news agency. Rudavský was 82 years old. Often seen as one of the most significant Slovak sculptors of the second half of the 20th century, the famous artist used different materials and inspiration for his works, often based around Slovak cultural heritage; regularly including chapels, pilgrims, shepherds and other Slovak cultural icons. His works continue to be represented in major Slovak galleries and renowned collections abroad with one of Rudavský's statues standing in front of the United Nations building in New York, USA. In 2013, Rudavský was awarded First Class Pribina Cross for his efforts in the cultural development of the Slovak Republic by then-President Ivan Gašparovič.
