During last week's intensive blitz on Slovak motorists, police reported that more than 23,000 people were stopped and inspected. The European-wide campaign which intended to increase road safety also included 332 motorcyclists and their passengers, where eleven individuals were found without helmets, according to the Police spokesperson Denisa Baloghová.
“The use of safety belts and child seats while driving should be the norm, not only because of legal obligations, but because of the safety of those inside the vehicle. This, however, is still not being realised,” added the spokesperson. 634 people were found not wearing seatbelts in the front seats of vehicles, with 52 instances found in the rear. “It should be noted that if the driver or passenger in a vehicle crash was not restrained, it could result in serious injuries with severe consequences, as well as not activating airbags,” added Baloghová.
