On Monday the agricultural ministers from the EU countries met in Luxembourg to deal with the crisis in the dairy market and pork industry. According to the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Phil Hogan, milk and pork production in the EU has increased - flooding the market, therefore the market situation for these commodities has become critical. Slovak agricultural minister Gabriela Matečná stated at the meeting that Slovakia will push for a less standard solution to the crisis, such as direct financial support for milk and pork. Ministers also discussed a proposal for the EU to draw on its crisis cash reserve. Matečná plans to deal with the crisis situation in the diary and meat market also during Slovakia's EU presidency in the second half of this year.
