Interior Minister Kaliňák at odds with new draft of European asylum system

Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák disagrees with the draft reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS), which the European Commission (EC) presented on Wednesday. The Commission is trying to improve the present dysfunctional Dublin system, while it also foresees the possibility of an even distribution of migrants among EU member states. Firstly the European Commission wants to create a sustainable and fair redistribution system of responsibilities. Secondly it wants to limit 'asylum tourism'. Thirdly it wants to prevent secondary movement of migrants within the EU. "This is along the lines with which we disagree, whether in the area of asylum law or other decisions," stated Interior Minister Kaliňák said after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák has not yet made Slovakia's stance on the matter public.
