Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák met visiting Greek President Karolos Papoulias for a working breakfast in Bratislava on Tuesday morning. "Slovakia wants to develop a constructive partnership and active dialogue with Greece," said Lajčák. According to Lajčák, relations between the two countries, which were established twenty years ago, are based on historical ties and a common present and future in the EU and NATO.
Lajčák and Papoulias agreed that both countries are facing the challenge of finding new momentum for economic development, including potential opportunities created by the economic crisis. One unique opportunity for co-operation between the two countries will be created by the upcoming Greek presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2014, with Slovakia preparing for its first-ever presidency in 2016.
