More than 10,000 people have already signed a petition launched in mid-June by civil association Mlada Petržalka against the planned route of the Bratislava-Schwechat Pipeline. The document has also been signed by Vladimir Bajan, mayor of Bratislava's most populous borough of Petržalka, through which the controversial oil pipeline linking Slovakia and Austria may be routed according to early plans.
“The new route ... shouldn't go through Petržalka, mainly in view of the protection of important water resources in Petržalka and below it, as well as in the Žitný ostrov area,” asserted Bajan. The final decision on the route should be made by the end of the year.
