The pro-European and pro-Transatlantic foreign policy orientation of Slovakia is unambiguous, said new Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš at a briefing with journalists after Prime Minister Robert Fico introduced him into office on Tuesday. Gajdoš, who is the former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, stressed that he will serve as defence minister with determination and as a professional. The new defence minister believes that Slovakia will fulfil its commitments from the NATO summit in Wales and until the end of 2020 will allocate 1.6 percent of the country's GDP for armament spending. "I'll strive for the most effective use of allocated financial resources", noted the minister.
