Slovakia increases security after Belgian terror attacks

After Tuesday's attacks in Brussels, Slovakia is considering increasing the official level of risk from terrorist threats. The country has also activated special security measures that were launched after the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015. According to information from the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry, no Slovak nationals are among the injured and victims. Slovakia has raised the level of protection of transport interchanges, airports, railways while also sporting, cultural and social events are to be monitored. The police will also increase street patrols. Prime Minister Robert Fico, Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák informed of the new measures following the session of the Security Council. Two bomb blasts early on Tuesday morning at Brussels international airport and another on a metro train in the centre of Brussels claimed 36 deaths while further dozens are reported as wounded.
