Slovakia’s new MPs sworn in

Members of the Slovak National Council were sworn in today after individually placing hands on the Constitution and reciting an oath to serve the interests of Slovak citizens. MPs were then required to elect the Speaker of Parliament, his deputies, and heads of parliamentary committees. The outgoing cabinet of Robert Fico is then expected to provide the abdication of his party to the President in order for the new cabinet to take its place, albeit with Fico retaining his post as Prime Minister. MPs will then have 30 days to vote for or against the new cabinet. Before Slovakia's newly-elected Members of Parliament were sworn in, a minute's silence was observed in memory of the victims of yesterday's terrorist attack in Brussels.
