Brussels attacks were no surprise, says Slovak security analyst

Security analyst Jaroslav Naď said that the explosions in Brussels earlier yesterday weren't a surprise, as the Belgian capital is among the world's most vulnerable cities for threat of terrorist attacks. "It's because it's at the heart of Europe, and the community of the powerful converges there", explained Naď, adding that such attacks can't be completely prevented. He added that the blasts might be a response to the arrest of several radicals, including Salah Abdeslam, who is suspected of involvement in the attacks in Paris in November. Naď noted that one of the explosions at Zaventem airport occurred at the American Airlines booth, while the one at a metro station was near the EU institutions. "It's as if they've attacked the USA and the EU", asserted Naď. The Belgian capital was hit by several explosions on Tuesday. The blasts targeted Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station near EU institutions. The blasts have so far claimed the lives of at least 36 people, while many more are injured. Belgium has since raised its terrorism alert to its highest level possible.
