Prime Minister Robert Fico Faces No-Confidence Vote

On Tuesday afternoon Parliament discusses the Opposition’s request for a no confidence vote in Prime Minister Robert Fico. He is accused of “selling the country to oligarchs” after Opposition MPs found that a document concerning the sale of the state’s 49 percent stake in the gas utility company SPP was drafted on a computer belonging to J&T Investment Advisors. Renamed EP Investment Advisors, this company is affiliated with the chosen buyer of the stake, Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH).

Fico has dismissed the Opposition’s allegations as nonsense. His party has the majority in Parliament thus the no confidence vote has virtually no chance of succeeding.
