Slovakia participates in Earth Hour

Slovakia is to join in the worldwide Earth Hour event for the seventh time this Saturday. This global event which started in Sydney in 2007 is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM as a symbol of conservation for the planet. This year, more than 170 countries and two billion people will participate. This year's motive, "Help Shine a Light on Climate Action" encourages people to make small changes in their everyday lives. "The goal is not to save one hour's energy. The ambition is to inspire people to change their thinking and habits in respect for the environment", said Miroslav Plassmann, the World Wildlife Fund coordinator in Slovakia. In Slovakia, dozens of towns, institutions and even castles such as Strečno, Bratislava, Trenčín, Spiš castle will participate.
