An elderly man almost gave €2000 to a pair of crooks in the western Slovak town of Nitra on Wednesday. The swindlers met the 89 year old Jozef on the street and persuaded him that they urgently need the money for their son's operation. The couple gave the old man some documents to keep until they give him the money back and drove him to the post office. Before withdrawing the money Jozef said the story to the post office worker. She found it suspicious and warned him that he might be a victim of tricksters. The old man decided not to withdraw the money and when he left the post office the crooks were gone. Jozef alarmed police who are now looking for the suspicious couple. "We warn citizens to be careful, because they can easily lose their savings", said Police Spokesperson for the Nitra region, Božena Bruchterová.
