New government should increase support for Slovaks living abroad

The World Association of Slovaks Living Abroad (SZSZ) welcomes the fact that the strengthening of state care for Slovaks living abroad is among the main priorities of the emerging Government. As their President Vladimir Skalský stated, the active interest of Slovaks living abroad in the March 5 election contributed to this, as approximately 50,000 Slovaks living abroad cast their votes in the general election, and thus became a political force, added Skalský. The Association of Slovaks Living Abroad expects the volume of grant support to return at least to the €1.3-million level that the state provided them prior to the financial crisis. If this comes true, the Government would send a clear signal that it's serious about its priorities vis-a-vis Slovaks living abroad.
