Extreme-right politician cancels play halfway through

On Monday in the central Slovak town of Brezno, Marian Kotleba, the leader the extreme-right political party Kotleba - Ľudová strana - Naše Slovensko (Kotleba - The People's Party - Our Slovakia) stopped a theatre performance halfway through the play. Kotleba was seated in the audience. This was reported by the Hospodárske Noviny daily on Tuesday. Theatre-goers were reportedly astonished at the announcement from Kotleba, who is also the governor of the Banská Bystrica region. Kotleba was apparently displeased by the interpretation of the play Kováči, written by the Slovak playwright Ján Chalupka. The performance was directed by Ľuboslav Majer, a renowned director, professor of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica and winner of many awards for artistic creation. Speaking on the event, veteran actress Alžbeta Vagadayová commented that, "Today they're cancelling performances. What will they do tomorrow?"
