Religious organisations in Slovakia bear their share of responsibility for the fact that an extremist party that covers its hatred in Christian rhetoric has made it to parliament, a group of theologians and figures from the social sphere stated in an open letter on Friday. The letter, signed by over 30 personalities, is in response to the election success of the far-right Kotleba-People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) in the March 5 general election. The signatories expressed concern over the lack of condemnation from Christian Churches of the spreading of extremism. In response to the letter, the Bishops' Conference over the weekend said that it is against extremism and will not be silent. However, it didn't condemn any of its pastors, who have in the past supported Kotleba's activities. On the occasion of the creation of the fascist Slovak state's anniversary a similar letter was also issued by historians.
