Monday, September 16 sees the launching of the nationwide sales receipt lottery, whereby individuals can submit the particulars of their sales receipts in the hope of winning cash prizes. Created as part of a larger plan to tackle tax evasion by encouraging consumers to ask for their receipts, shoppers who spend more than €1 will have until September 30 to enter their receipt details via the Internet or text message to be in to win €10,000 and later the possibility of winning a car.
The Government hopes that this lottery program will teach individuals to ask for receipts when making purchases and reduce undeclared income from traders.
