Slovak Police detain three people wanted in Italy

Slovak police officers taking part in an international police operation managed to track down and detain three suspects within several hours last week, TASR learnt on Monday. The case involves an extensive investigation into criminal conspiracy, tax evasion, money laundering and money transfers abroad that is being held in line with the Italian Criminal Code. The perpetrators and related business operations allegedly come from several EU-member states, Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Michal Slivka told TASR. Italian judicial authorities asked the Slovak police for help at the beginning of last week vis-a-vis a case handled by the local court in Vicenza. The court issued arrest warrants for two Italians (Guiseppe C. and Manuel D.) and one Slovak (Monika G.). "International police Operation OLTRE CONFINE was aimed at apprehending perpetrators involved in a vast network of economic criminal activities at a precise date and time (6.30 a.m. on March 2). It was a challenging task given the character of the operation, the nature of the persons involved, and also the fact that the Italian authorities requested cooperation just one day before the operation took place", said Slivka. Slovak police officers managed to find the suspects in Slovakia within hours. With the help of police units from Trenčín and Banská Bystrica they detained all three people in Novaky (Trenčín region). "The regional prosecutor's office in Trenčín was informed about the arrests. The three persons were put into a preliminary detention cell and are still in custody", said Slivka.
