Teachers and students still on strike alert

Teachers of all school levels who joined the recent strike are still on strike alert, joined by university lecturers, who have been pointing to the bad situation in the education sector since February 15. The University Lecturers Initiative and the Slovak Teachers Initiative warns that, if the new government is passive, they are ready to strike again in favour of their three demands and can count on the support of parents and university students in this, as well. Teachers, parents and students called on the future government to stop overlooking the problems of the education sector after 20 years of neglect and to stop only referring to it as a priority and start acting, instead. Teachers are demanding their salaries be increased by €140 per month this year and by extra €90 the next one, as well as additional investment in equipment in various schools worth €400 million, and a change of the system of continuing education.
