If not a metro, then a tram to Petržalka

An element of Bratislava's communist-era underground rail project has been brought to life thanks to the completion of the reconstruction of Bratislava's Old Bridge, writes Hospodárske Noviny daily. The completion of Bratislava's Old Bridge will lead to the introduction of a tramline to the Bratislava borough of Petržalka that will partly copy the route of the originally planned Bratislava metro. The decision to create if not a metro, then at least a tram to Petržalka was made in 2003. The people of Bratislava will finally be able to use the line after 13 years of waiting. The route leads from Šafárik Square over the renovated Old Bridge to Bosákova Street in Petržalka. However, the eventual, extended route will end much further on. The almost four-kilometre line should cost around €70 million. This is approximately €10 million less than the construction of the transport project's first stage.
